Marta Meats are back!
I know that some of you (most of you probably) are scratching your heads saying "what's a Marta Meat?" But if you shared your childhood with the Roundy girls, you know what I am talking about! Marta Meats come from my Grandpa Gasters' wife Marta. She came to stay with us one time when we were kids and made them for us. They were an instant hit! My mom made them all the time after that. They have a real name somewhere, but we couldn't remember what it was so we just called them Marta Meats. Yummy!

They look something like this, minus the lovely green leaves thrown in for effect.

If your interested in trying them here is what you do:

Get a roast and slice it very thin. Coat the slices in egg, then bread crumbs. You can use any kind. We used Italian and it gave it some nice spice. If you use plain bread crumbs I would spice it up a bit with some garlic or onion or maybe seasoning salt. Now here is the unhealthy part; fry the coated strips in hot oil until cooked through.

I served some whole wheat bread and veggies along with ours so I would feel better about the fried part. My family is NUMBER ONE in picky eater land and they loved them! Even Kade asked for seconds!

Joyfully, the Marta Meat tradition lives on for another generation! Thanks Grandma Marta!

I'll have to try out this Marta Meat. Being a Roundy girl myself, I'm sure to love them.

Look up mpix online. It's a great place to order prints from. I'm going to get our family picture printed on stretched canvas pretty soon.

Hooray, Hooray for Marta Meats! They're a hit at our house too. Only with a slight variation. I use pork chops that I pound really thin and then I marinate the meat in Stubbs for a day before we fry them up. Mmmm mmmm mmmm.

I am glad you found something they like. I would be disowned if my family ever heard I made this Southern Dinner.
